Once a little known ski area geared to the needs (and budgets) of locals, The Canyons has been transformed into a major destination ski resort since its purchase by the American Skiing Company in 1997. With major development in the last few years, the resort now boasts the most lift-served skiable terrain in Utah. Management's long term goal is to create the largest resort in the U.S. in terms of skiable acres.
The "Old Mountain", as the locals refer to the terrain that has been around since the resort's early days, is a combination of wicked fall lines and expansive open areas. Some of the runs face to the east resulting in a lack of snow in the late season but generous natural snowfall keeps the resort open to early May.
Among the newer terrain, 9990 is the peak for experts. This mountain has everything: bowls, chutes, trees, bumps -- you name it. Backcountry terrain is also accessible from the summit. |
