Bogus Basin Mountain Resort is located just 16 miles from the state capitol, Boise, Idaho. The resort was opened to the public in 1942 and developed as an alternative to the long travel by Boise's numerous skiers.
Originally started by the Bogus Basin Ski Club, the Bogus Basin Recreation Association was formed as a nonprofit entity. The BBRA still operates the ski area in the designated not-for-profit status -- one of the few in the United States.
As one of the largest permit holders (2,600 acres) in the Northwest, Bogus Basin ranks behind only Sun Valley in size and skier visits in Idaho.
Two thousand truly skiable acres offer a wide variety of terrain, boasting some of the finest open bowl and glade skiing in the Rockies.
Pricing has been kept significantly lower than resorts of similar size with great values on family skiing. Bogus Basin is the industry leader in discount season passes.
The area offers all the amenities that you can imagine, including mid-mountain lodging, sleigh rides and one of the last western cities nearby.
The name? A two-paged story of a hard-to-find drainage and an 1863 mining claim. Capt. Tom Morgan and a group of no-accounts, filed a claim in the area of the current base facilities. Later they returned to Boise with the fruits of their labor, reportedly as much as $50,000 worth of gold. After a legendary spending spree, it was discovered to be fool's gold (Iron Pyrite) that had been chemically tuned up. The group was neither caught nor ever seen again.
